9/11

I debated about posting anything today. I mean, it’s 9/11 and unless you live under a rock – and have for the last 6 years – you know what this day means to most Americans. Personally I’ll never forget where I was when I first heard the news: I was at work and Brian called me to say a plane had flew into a building in New York. Of course at the time we all thought it was an accident – a horrific accident, but an accident nonetheless… And then the 2nd plane hit…

I don’t like watching the videos of 9/11. I’ve seen them plenty of times and I’m not sure how effective they are at letting – or helping – people heal. I think they can do just the opposite and remind you of the horror of what happened. In March 2006 Brian and I went to New York and visited Ground Zero. It’s hard to believe there were ever buildings that stood there – it’s simply a big hole in the ground. And like many of the memorials in DC, no one speaks there. It’s as if only hushed tones are allowed in the face of such tragedy.

So dear friends, remember those lost their lives that day. They were innocent.
