It’s not often a person admits they’re wrong. Or that they are just a plain old idiot. Yet that is what I’m about to do.
Turns out I have been saying an idiom wrong for…ummm…I don’t know…forever. I have always said, “shitty grin” – as in, “She has a shitty grin on her face.” Recently my friend pointed out that it is actually “shit-eating grin”. So I have been saying this wrong for YEARS and no one has told me.
Curious as to what this truly obnoxious saying actually meant, I turned to my favorite research tool – the internet – for answers. According to The Free Dictionary, a Shit-Eating Grin is “a look of extreme satisfaction on someone’s face that is annoying to people who are less happy.” That, dear friends, just may be the best definition I have ever found.
